Finding A Literary Agent

Scouting agents reminds me of the old commercial that that had a person trying to find a job. Every attempt left him with the same answer, "You just don't have enough experience." To which the questing hopeful says, "I can't get a job without experience, so how do I get experience without a job?" Being a pre-published author is much of the same; I have a Christian Young Adult, Fantasy novel that I have completed, and hope to have published. Granted, I am not saying that it is a literary masterpiece, just that my lack of publishing credentials is not helping my plight of publication. I have found that most of the responses I have received are MIA (in other words, the agent never commented). With that said, I have received rejections; most of which are dry and to the point. I must say, however, that I have received a very kind rejection, as ironic as it may sound, that was encouraging.
Dear Melissa,
Thanks for writing. You certainly have wonderful credentials and I have considered your proposal several times this past week. Great title! However, I must decline for several reasons. I am a little leery of taking on fantasy, especially since it involves biblical content. Perhaps another agent will be happy to see it.
My best wishes as you seek publication.

I toyed with the option of leaving off her name, but I really wanted to put it out there. She actually considered me; wow! I hope to keep you all posted on what happens from here. Wish me luck!
